How many of
you just find yourself scrolling through social media reading all kinds of
popular sayings and "isms" ? This blog post is inspired by one of
those very popular quotes, well actually this particular one that I always see.
*drumroll please* The infamousssssss "Support Who Supports You!" I’ve
seen this quote and post so much lately and just couldn’t figure out why it
irritated every part of me.
So, I started praying
and reading my Word and the Holy Spirit led me to Luke 6. When I opened my bible and begin to look more into Luke 6, my eyes
were opened even more! For a second I was shocked, but I knew God led me to
this chapter to explore and learn. I highlighted 3 points....
# 1 - Luke 6:33 says it all below! I’ve heard people quote this but
didn’t know this was really biblical. Are you seeing this?? If we only love the
lovable, does that make us dope? NO! If you only help those who help you, do
you actually expect a medal?? NO! This spoke volumes to me because of how easy it
is to love people that we feel like deserve it, but how about going beyond
what's easy and loving the unlovable?
When we are offering any form of support, are we instantly
thinking “what will I get in return?” Let's change that thought process, Luke 6:38 says
to "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good
measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give
into your bosom." Why do we place so much
energy into who supports us when we know that GOD controls all? This verse says
GIVE and it shall be given unto you, not give to Keisha and Keisha shall give
to you. lol!
# 2 - Another scripture that comes to mind is Galatians 6:7 “Be not
deceived; God is not
mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap." Also known as
KARMA; what you give is what you will get in return….PERIOD. When we live
by this "support who supports you” creed, we can so easily
find ourselves surrounded by incentive-based people who will
begin to make you feel obligated ‘to DO’ and ‘BE’, because they have ‘DONE and BEEN.’
So now ask yourself, “Is that real support?” I myself want to
be surrounded by a true support system that is actually interested in
what I am doing versus just supporting me because I have supported them.
# 3 - So now, you may ask and even wonder, “how do I know when I
should support someone? Whether it be in business, friendship,
or etc., the key is to be led by God. When you are in relationship with God,
your prayers become conversations with HIM where you will find yourself doing
more listening than talking. We have to learn to acknowledge God in all of our
ways and the decision-making process becomes that much easier (real life goals
for me). You may find yourself praying for some of your friends
versus showing up to their events, not because you did not want to attend,
but because you were led to provide support in another way. The best
feeling is knowing that you are following God’s plan and not your own.
Lastly, I challenge you today to toss that
old stinking thinking in the trash and support someone that is outside of your
"support circle" because God has laid it on your heart and not
because they supported you first!

Matthew teaches us that Jesus consistently got on the church for now going to the high ways and byways to the people who needs it the most. He said at a dinner once why would a Doctor go to the well? What purpose is there? ....I can get started but Matthew slays on how to love and reach out. Girl Even when they slap you in the face. This is my favorite lesson! keep growing... :)
